Michigan Inland Lakes

From ice out to freeze up fishing trips are available for bass, pike and walleye.

The inland lakes around Traverse City in Northern Michigan are home to some of the largest smallmouth bass in the world. Targeting these fish with a fly rod is a unique and challenging adventure that any angler will enjoy. From the size of fish, to the setting in which they are pursued, it is an incredible experience all around. Many of the lakes in the area are gin clear, waters as blue as the Caribbean right here in Michigan. In addition to size these waters also have good populations of fish which make for exciting days.

In addition to smallmouth the Traverse City area lakes offer good pike and walleye fishing. Walleye fishing peaks in the fall and the pike fishing is strong in both spring and fall. The warm water temps in summer push these fish deep where conventional gear works better (July through August). Fly-fishing for pike from opener (last Saturday in April) through June and then again from late September until ice up, can be exciting and there is always the potential of connecting with a Great Lakes Musky on the majority of the pike lakes.  If interested in booking a Musky trip I would advise focusing on the New or Full Moon phases.
